Welcome to Allen Marine Inc.

An introduction from our President

Our company has been evolving since 1967 into specialists in the building of aluminum high speed passenger vessels with waterjet propulsion systems. In the infancy of the Southeast Alaska tourism business, our family created Allen Marine and started building and operating vessels to meet the needs of this unique market as well as providing vessel haul out and repair services. Over the years, Allen Marine has grown through hard work, innovative designs and a healthy reputation for quality and vessel dependability.

Perhaps the most unique aspect of our company is that we don’t just build vessels but we operate them as well. Today, we operate a fleet of twenty eight vessels in the tourism business and sail from the Alaskan ports of Sitka, Juneau, Ketchikan and Hoonah. Allen Marine continually uses the experience gained from these operations to fine tune our vessel designs and systems to best meet the needs of our operators and passengers.

In 1986, we built our first aluminum catamaran, the 78 foot M/V St. John, powered with a pair of Detroit diesels and Hamilton waterjets. The very next year, we decided to take advantage of the speed capabilities of this hull and built the 105 ft. M/V Alaskan Dream. This vessel was the first catamaran in the world built with four propulsion engines and four waterjets. When operations require tightly scheduled sailings, the value of having four independent propulsion systems quickly becomes apparent. The Alaskan Dream gained a reputation for supreme dependability. Put into year round service, three round trips per day transporting workers from Juneau to the Greens Creek mine, she never missed a trip due to mechanical reasons over a 10-year period.

Since 1984 we have built 52 vessels. To give you an idea of our production capability, from June 1999 to June 2003 we built thirteen 78 ft. 150 passenger catamarans and six 65 ft. 97 passenger monohulls.

Allen Marine’s capabilities don’t stop with passenger vessels. We have a 65 ft. X 21 ft. all aluminum landing craft design with a 65,000 lb. capacity. We have built two of these, one for the National Park Service and one for the California Park Service. We also build gangways and both vehicular and pedestrian bridges. We have built one of the longest all aluminum bridges in the world. It is 140 feet long by 16 feet wide and weighs 63,000 lbs. It has a maximum gross vehicle load of 72,000 lbs. We use the bridge to access our 100 foot by 360 foot barge that we use for our tour operation in Juneau Alaska.

Thanks for your interest; our skilled team looks forward to meeting all of your company’s requirements.

Sincerely,

David C. Allen
